Whether you are building a new cabin, rebuilding an old one or just looking for ideas for a building you already have, you have come to the right place. For fifty years I have been lucky enough to have a second home in
the country. The first one I inherited, the second one was a fixer-upper and the 3rd one which I own now was built from scratch. I have employed a variety of ideas over the years to make my cabin safe, fun and affordable. I hope you too can benefit from my experiences.
There are many decisions to be made when deciding what is right for you. Location certainly is important. How you are going to power your lodge is also important. I use a variety of techniques including solar electric, which is great because it doesn't come with a monthly bill. I have propane lights and heater and also supplement the heating chore with wood. When I am really lazy for electric , I use a generator. Some people don't understand how I can live without a live hook-up to electricity but the fact is you just get used to it, you improvise, you adapt ,you watch less TV.
Hopefully you will bookmark this site now and come back often to read all my pages and come up with many new ideas. Everything I suggest comes from the old fashion trial and error method. And as you know errors are costly and very frustrating at times. Be sure to read About SAFETY AND SECURITY. When you are out at your cabin you may be isolated from the rest of the world and you will need to rely on yourself. Be careful !
Finally you will find many links both in the content and with logos. These are all people that I have dealt with in the past for one reason or another. I can't guarantee that you will have the same success that I have had but there are many leads here for you to follow. Good luck and enjoy your cottage !

What type of cabin_heat is best? If you want cabin_heat that is relatively cheap, wood is good for that. Propane is also a nice addition to your overall goal of being warm.
